A 22-year-old Pahoa man suspected of forcibly taking another man’s skateboard turned himself in to police Monday.

Gary A. Simpkins, who was the subject of a public bulletin, was charged Tuesday afternoon with second-degree robbery. His bail was set at $5,000 and his initial court date is today.

According to police, a 19-year-old Pahoa man reported that shortly after 1 a.m. Sept. 20, he was walking near the intersection of Highway 130 and Pahoa Village Road when a white four-door sedan stopped and two males got out and accosted him. The victim reported he was assaulted by one of the men, who forcibly took a skateboard from him before fleeing in the car.

The second suspect was identified by police as a 16-year-old boy. The investigation into his case was forwarded to prosecutors for a charging decision, police said.
